This Level 2 Bookkeeping qualification effectively enhances your practical accountancy skills, particularly in working with the double-entry bookkeeping system. You will develop the ability to utilise associated documents and processes effectively.

The course covers key areas such as ensuring transaction accuracy and making appropriate entries in books and ledgers. You'll also gain skills in calculating sales invoices and preparing credit notes. The qualification includes the following mandatory units:

1. Introduction to Bookkeeping

You will acquire knowledge in both manual and digital bookkeeping systems. This unit will teach you the fundamental principles of the double-entry bookkeeping system and how to effectively use related documents and processes. By the end of this unit, you will understand how to:

  • Set up bookkeeping systems
  • Process customer transactions
  • Handle receipts and payments
  • Process supplier transactions
  • Record transactions in ledger accounts

2. Principles of Bookkeeping Controls

Building on the knowledge and skills from the Introduction to Bookkeeping unit, this second mandatory unit will equip you with the skills to manage value-added tax (VAT) control accounts. You'll learn about control accounts, journals, and reconciliations.

Additionally, this unit will enhance your ability to manage receivables and payables ledger accounts. You'll understand how to use journals to record various transactions and correct errors. Moreover, after making the necessary adjustments, you'll be prepared to redraft the initial trial balance. By the end of this unit, you will be proficient in:

  • Utilising control accounts
  • Reconciling bank statements with the cash book
  • Using journals effectively
  • Producing trial balances

Assessments

This qualification is completed through two mandatory unit assessments, with 100% of the qualification assessed by externally marked exams. All assessments for this qualification are:

  • Computer-based
  • Set and marked by the AAT
  • Time-limited
  • Conducted under controlled conditions
  • Scheduled by training providers or assessment venues

Assessment Schedule

You can book your assessments when you're ready. You can sit for the assessments once you have completed the course, as they are available at specific times throughout the year.

Grading

To successfully complete the qualification, you must pass 3 mandatory unit assessments and 2 optional out of 5 assessments. The AAT will award grades based on your overall performance across the qualification, rather than on individual units. The final grades are:

- Distinction
- Merit
- Pass

Results

You will receive your results in up to 6 weeks for all subjects, which can be accessed through your AAT portal under the "See Your Progress" section.

Resits

You should only take an assessment when you are fully prepared to pass. There are no restrictions on the number of resits you can take, giving you the flexibility to retake assessments if needed. If you do not pass an assessment, you will have the opportunity to discuss your results with your tutor and prepare for a retake accordingly.

Completion Time

The duration for this course is 3 months including your revision and mock exams and exams break.
